PCM girls golf set record in Moravia win

The Prairie City-Monroe girls golf team has been knocking at the door of a school record lately, and it knocked that door down Thursday.

The Mustangs shot an 18-hole school record 378 and topped the nine-team Lady Mohawk Invitational by 18 strokes through some rain and other unpleasant weather.

“This is a very exciting season with these girls as they keep working hard to better themselves,” PCM coach Val Edwards said. “I think we seem to play better when the weather is not so nice.”

Once again, Maddie Peters was runner-up in the meet with a 90, followed by Cassidy Van Veen with a 94 and Rachel Phifer and Kaitlyn Wilkie with 97s.

PCM will wrap up its regular season with a nine-hole meet at Colfax-Mingo today.
