• Perry J. Graham, 54, of Burlington, was charged with public intoxication, third or subsequent charge, after officers responded to a call of a man sleeping in the back of his pickup truck in the Hy-Vee parking lot on May 6 at 8:09 p.m. Graham exhibited a strong odor of alcohol, bloodshot eyes and slurred speech. Officers advised him to sit on the tailgate of his truck and not leave or he would be charged with public intoxication. After Graham left the tailgate, officers arrested him and he was taken to jail.
• Jacob L. Drew, 19, of Newton, was charged with domestic assault, simple, and obstruction of emergency communication after officers responded to a call regarding a domestic situation at 411 E. 21st St. S. on May 6 at 12:52 p.m. The female victim, who had taken shelter at a neighbor’s house, reported that Drew had hit her in the face with an open palm and shoved her up against an appliance in the home. When she tried to call 911, Drew took the victim’s cell phone and threw it into the driveway, breaking it into pieces. The victim then attempted to call police from a landline in the home when Drew unplugged the phone. Drew was arrested and taken to jail.
