Addressing the problem of pet overpopulation throughout Iowa and specifically in Jasper County means taking action and a mobile clinic later this month will offer low-cost spaying and neutering services for residents who have outside or free-roaming feral cats.

The clinic, sponsored by the Jasper County Animal Rescue League and Humane Society, are being conducted by certified staff from the Animal Protection and Education Charity. The APE clinic will be held at the JCARL facility at 5411 Liberty Ave. in Newton, beginning at 9 a.m. Thursday, May 23.

During the APE clinic, fees for spaying female cats are $50. Fees for neutering male cats are $40. This low-cost option provides many additional benefits for the animals:

• Vaccinations (distemper and rabies)

• Microchip ID

• Parasite control (30-day treatment for ear mites, fleas, roundworms & hookworms)

Reservations for this low-cost clinic are strictly required and offered to qualifying cats on a first-come, first-served basis. To make an appointment, please check in at www.ape.checkappointments.com, or contact APE directly at (515) 460-7729.
