Mike T. Monteleone

Mike Tony Monteleone, 81, passed away quietly on May 3, 2013, after a two month hospitalization. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be designated to the Jasper County Animal Rescue League and Humane Society and may be left at the funeral home.

Mike, the son of Nicola “Nick” and Mary (Mediate) Monteleone, was born Jan. 10, 1932, in Pershing.   He attended Attica High School. On Feb. 28, 1951, Mike was united in marriage with Delores Lucille Marshall in Newton. Newton would be his home for over 60 years.  Mike worked for the Maytag Company in Automatic Assembly.  He retired after 42 1/2 years. Mike loved his children and grandchildren. He always enjoyed visiting and being with his friends and family.  Mike had a lifetime of hobbies including fishing, photography, motorcycles and traveling.

Those left to honor Mike’s memory include his children, Michele (Rick) Movius of Southern Pines, N.C., Jeffrey (Ronda) Monteleone of Newton, Tanya Cunningham of Newton, Brett (Lorretta) Monteleone of Melcher-Dallas, Nicole (Roy) Noble of Des Moines; sister, Nathaleen (Don) Ginkens of Knoxville; grandchildren, Tawny (Danny) VanTomme, Megan (Bradley) Jones, Kylie Monteleone, Makenzie Monteleone, Kori Cunningham, Mandi Cunningham, Tiffany Noble; great granddaughter, Emma VanTomme, and a soon to be born great granddaughter, Cora Lee Johnson; as well as his many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Delores, on May 8, 2003.
