G. Jerry Davis, 79, of Newton died on Saturday, May 4, 2013, at his home in Newton. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 1409 S. 8th Ave. E. in Newton. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Memorials to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, the American Diabetes Association, or to the donor’s choice may be left at the church at the above listed times or at the Wallace Family Funeral Home. Memorials may also be mailed to the funeral home with “Attn: Davis Family” on the envelope. Arrangements are being handled by the Wallace Family Funeral Home & Crematory in Newton.

G. Jerry Davis, the son of Glenn and Arla (Davis) Davis, was born July 2, 1933 in Nevada. He was a graduate of Nevada High School and a graduate of Iowa State University with a degree in Engineering. On June 20, 1954, Jerry was united in marriage with Evelyn J. Handeland in Radcliff. He was a Senior Design Engineer at the Maytag Company for 38 years, retiring in 1993. He was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, and the PKA Fraternity. Jerry loved being with his family and going to their activities. He also enjoyed playing golf, working on cars, and woodworking.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn of Newton; children, Floyd Davis of Gulfport, Miss., Betty (Frank) Buckley of Newton, Steve (Patti) Davis of Mitchellville, Bob (Sheri) Davis of Slater, and Jim (Kim) Davis of Fenton, Mich.; his 10 grandchildren, Jeremy (Belle) Davis, Michael (Ellen) Davis, Jeff (Lindsey) Buckley, Joe (Emily) Buckley, Staci (Phil) Cox, Alison (Eric) Stewart, Ashley Davis, Mackenzie Davis, Elizabeth Davis, and Jacob Davis; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and granddaughter, Michelle Davis.
