Dale L. Saunders, Sr.

Dale L. Saunders, Sr., 75, of Newton, died on Thursday, May 2, 2013 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton. The family will greet friends from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials to Skiff Hospice may be left at the funeral home. Memorials may also be mailed to the funeral home, please add Attn: Saunders Family on the envelope.

Dale the son of Raymond R. and Harriett (Taylor) Saunders, was born on May 3, 1937 in Grinnell. He was a graduate of Marshalltown High School with the Class of 1955. On Nov. 10, 1957, Dale was united in marriage with Danienne “Dee” Miner in Grinnell. He worked 37 years for the Anderson Erickson Dairy in Des Moines, he made home and wholesale deliveries and also drove semi for them. Prior to and following his retirement from AE, Dale drove a school bus for the Newton Community School District for 50 years. Dale loved to be with and do things with his family and enjoyed being a part of the family race team, playing golf, camping, fishing, playing cards, and going to the casinos.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Dee; son, Tim (Rhonda) Saunders of Newton; his three grandchildren, Jennifer Saunders of Marshalltown, Joshua (Breanna) Saunders of Cedar Falls, and Kelsey K. Saunders of Gilman; two great-grandchildren, Jackson DeGrado, and Paige Dupee; his two brothers, Richard (Mollie) Saunders of Grinnell, and Kenneth “Pepper” (Phyllis) Saunders of Grinnell; his sister, Kay (Paul) Eker of Marshalltown.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Dale L. “Dudley” Saunders, Jr., grandson, Robbie Saunders; sister, Addie Samson; and two brothers, Charles and Raymond Saunders.
