NewWayDryWay brings residue-free carpet steaming to Newton

While carpet cleaning is mostly dominated by national companies such as Stanley Steemer, Ken Landgrebe, owner of NewWayDryWay, is hoping to change that.

NewWayDryWay currently operates out of Landgrebe’s home, but because of the company’s success, he is looking to establish a storefront in Newton.

“I would like to be able to wash rugs, oriental rugs,” Landgrebe said. “There are some places here in town that are relatively cheap, and in the future we hope to have (a storefront) soon.”

Landgrebe credits NewWayDryWay’s success to its customer service and unique steamer.

“It doesn’t leave any sticky residue,” Landgrebe said. “There is no silifoam left behind. It dries, in most circumstances, under 60 minutes — some spots maybe 90 minutes to a couple of hours — but for the most part it takes 30 to 60 minutes. It dries spot-free (and) it stays cleaner longer because it gets drier quicker.”

The revolutionary machine was first brought to Landgrebe’s attention during a demonstration when the company was just getting off the ground. The demonstration left a lasting impression on Landgrebe and he knew he had to have it.

He explained how NewWayDryWay’s cleaning process is very different than what many other companies offer.

“We use agitation and dwell time to ensure that every side of fiber is coated,” he said. “Basically, we have a great, big, giant machine that acts like a giant floor buffer, but different.”

He also said the process uses 10 times less hot water than traditional steam-cleaning services.

“We have quicker set up times and quicker cleaning times,” co-owner Brooks Clark said.

Landgrebe added NewWayDryWay’s services only leave the floor somewhat damp for few hours rather than a few days.

Landgrebe also said he was happy to be independently owned rather than being corporately owned.

“It’s much easier (and) much nicer,” he said. “The customers get the owner right there. I can give them answers right there.”

He said some customers prefer to have just one room cleaned while others look to have their entire homes cleaned.

“Some people will do half there house in a month and half the next,” he said. “Some will only have a few rooms of carpet.”

Landgrebe also said that, although vacuuming takes care of a majority of the dirt left on the floor, steaming is still important.

“Vacuuming gets rid of about 80 percent of the dry soil,” he said. “What we do is (remove) the rest of it. One of our benefits is, anything we do miss, we’ll come back.”

He also said the longer a floor stays wet, the more susceptible it is to dirt.

In addition to carpet cleaning, NewWayDryWay cleans upholstery, tile, grout and wood.
