Ruth A. Huggins, 82, of Kellogg, the daughter of Edward and Zada (Finnell) Butler, was born Sept. 29, 1930, in Algona, Iowa. She was a graduate of the Saint Joseph Academy in Des Moines, Class of 1948.
On Jan. 20, 1951, Ruth was united in marriage with Albert Joe Huggins in Des Moines, Iowa. She was employed by News Printing Company, 27 years, retiring in 1994. Ruth devoted her life to her family. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, was the lector coordinator and one of the first two women lectors. Ruth enjoyed bowling and was a longtime member of the Jasper County Women’s Bowling Association.
Ruth died Sunday evening, April 21, 2013, at Skiff Medical Center, under the care of Skiff Hospice in Newton. Visitation with the family will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 26, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with a vigil service at 7 p.m. The Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton, has been entrusted with the arrangements. A funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 27, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Father William Reynolds and Deacon Dan Goetz officiating. Memorials are being designated to Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.
Those left to honor Ruth’s memory include her children: Cathy and Bob Carter of Newton, Mary and Maury Cunningham of Lincoln, Neb., and Jim Huggins of Kellogg; her five grandchildren, Cody and Danielle Carter of Encinitas, Calif., Spc Caitlin and Sgt Chris McCay of Fort Louis, Wash., Travis Cunningham of Omaha, Neb., Jenna Cunningham of Topeka, Kan., and PFC Nicholas Huggins of Fort Campbell, Ky., and his fiancé Merissa Swinnerton; her great-granddaughter Brooklyn McCay; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews; and her many friends.
Ruth was preceded in death by her father and beloved mother and her husband Joe on March 8, 2010.
