Newton teen in critical condition after being hit by car

A 14-year-old Newton teen is in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle in Newton on Sunday night.

Newton police and fire personnel were dispatched at 9:04 p.m. to the 1100 block of East 19th Street North in reference a car and pedestrian accident. Initial information indicates Daniel Edwards was driving north in the 1100 block of East 19th Street North when he struck Brendan O'Brien, who was in the roadway.

Family members of Berg Middle School students confirmed O'Brien is an eighth-grade student at Berg.

O’Brien was transported to Mercy Medical Center, where he remains in critical condition. The investigation is ongoing.
