Thursday’s weather cancellations and makeup dates

It was yet another rainy day for Jasper County sports, as every event on the schedule was wiped out because of the wet stuff.

While many of the events were canceled entirely, makeup dates have been announced for several of the events that will remain on the calender.

The Newton boys and girls tennis teams’ meets against Oskaloosa have been rescheduled for May 5. The Cardinal boys will host Osky at Aurora Heights Park, while the girls will make the trip to Oskaloosa. Also rescheduled was the Newton boys soccer team’s game at Marshalltown, which will be made up on May 13.

The first of Newton’s two home track meets has apparently been completely canceled. The second of which, the Cardinal Relays, is scheduled for May 2.

Other area makeup dates include the Prairie City-Monroe boys track team’s meet at Saydel moving to April 22 and the Collins-Maxwell-Baxter girls soccer team’s game at Gilbert to May 14.

CMB’s home girls track meet that featured Colfax-Mingo was postponed with no makeup date yet announced, as were the games for PCM’s boys and girls soccer teams. PCM’s girls track meet at South Tama and Colfax-Mingo’s boys track meet at Martensdale-St. Marys were both canceled entirely.

Weather-related problems could continue into next week, as the current forecast has rain for both Monday and Tuesday. Things are finally looking up after that, however, as dry days with temperatures in the mid-50s are expected for the latter part of the week.
