Newton grad Meyer gets Iowa Conference honor

PELLA (CC) — Newton Senior High School graduate Caitlyn Meyer of Central College has been named the Iowa Conference female athlete of the week.

Recognized as the softball position player of the week, Meyer batted .667 in four games during the week and helped extend Central’s win streak to 11. The senior catcher posted a 1.333 slugging percentage and had 10 hits in 15 at-bats with three home runs, a double, three runs scored and eight RBIs. 

Meyer’s seventh-inning home run shot against No. 12 Simpson Wednesday led to a 6-5 (11 inn.) win before a 4-4 effort in the nightcap helped the No. 21 Dutch notch a 12-3 (5 inn.) victory. Meyer’s second home run blast of the week broke a tie in the eighth inning for a 5-3 triumph against Loras Sunday. She drove in three runs in the second game as Central rolled up a 9-1 (6 inn.) victory and improved to 20-5 overall with a 4-0 league mark.
