As this year will be the last for the Jasper County Honor Flights, the Newton community plans to go all out to honor our nation’s veterans this year.

“Salute to Our American Patriots” will be the theme for this year’s Fourth of July Parade and festivities. Greater Newton Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Darrell Sarmento made the announcement this morning at the organization’s monthly breakfast event.

The Chamber is the sponsor of the annual celebration.

This year, the parade will begin at 9:30 a.m. An assortment of activities and food vendors will be available on the downtown courthouse square immediately following the parade until 2 p.m.

“We are excited that all of our Jasper County veterans will be invited again to march in the parade and we will honor the final trip of our veterans on the Jasper County Freedom Flight,” Sarmento said. “Plan now to help make this annual Fourth of July Parade and festivities a proud day for Newton.”

The Chamber will be seeking sponsorship donations, ranging from $50 to $750, from its members in advance of the event. For more information, or to donate toward the event, contact the Chamber Office at (641) 792-5545.
