Following a joint investigation with the Iowa Department of Corrections with regard to last Tuesday’s Newton Correctional Facility attack, the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office charged inmate Martavis Wise, 22, with assault on a corrections officer.

During the fight, Wise is alleged to have repeatedly punched a correctional officer in the face, causing him to be transported off grounds to seek medical attention. Officers had to use pepper spray to subdue Wise.

Wise was notified by the Iowa Department of Corrections officials of the charge and will be given a court date to appear on the charge.
