The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office has begun issuing optional plastic weapon permit cards with photo identification.
Citizens applying for the new permit to carry a weapon will be offered either the paper permit or the plastic permit ID cards. Those choosing the plastic ID card will be charged an additional $10 for a total of $60.
Citizens who have existing permits to carry weapons also have the option of obtaining a plastic ID card for $10. Citizens who apply will be required to show their current paper weapons permits, which will be replaced with the new card.
Citizens who need a duplicate weapons permit will be required to pay the standard $25 fee for a paper duplicate or $35 for a plastic ID card.
In order to facilitate this process, the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office business hours will be extended to 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. the next three Thursdays in April.
Citizens also may obtain the new plastic ID cards during normal business hours, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Payment can be made in form of cash or check. The sheriff’s office is not able to accept payments via credit or debit cards.
