Resident thankful for sheriff who supports Second Amendment rights

To the editor:

I’m writing to publicly thank Sheriff John Halferty for implementing the new photo-ID card system for those who have permits to carry weapons in Jasper County. 

This is something permitholders in our county have wanted for a very long time, and Sheriff Halferty is to be commended for taking the lead on this and getting it done.  Between this and his comments in the Jan. 23 article in the Newton Daily News, it’s nice to know that Jasper County has a sheriff who understands and supports our Second Amendment rights.
