Lynn Richard ‘Pat’ Patterson

Lynn Richard “Pat” Patterson, 90, of Laurel passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2013, at Grandview Nursing Home in Marshalltown, Iowa.

A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, April 8, at Laurel United Methodist Church. The family will greet friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Monday at the church. Memorials in Lynn’s name may be left at the church or the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton.

Lynn was born on June 26, 1922, to Clyde and Lillie (Koon) Patterson in Newton. He was united in marriage on March 13, 1943, to Ruth Harlyne Price in Omaha, Neb. Lynn was a farm hand as a teen near Kellogg. Later he delivered groceries on a three-wheel motorcycle for Smith Grocery in Newton. He then worked for the Bomber Plant in Omaha and then for Serol Petroleum in 1944 and 1945. Lynn later drove taxi cab for seven years in Newton before working at a body shop in Marshalltown. In 1957, he moved to Laurel and bought his own body shop that he ran until retirement.

Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Roger (Sondra) Patterson of Gilman; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and his three sisters, Wanda Larson of Silverton, Oregon, Virginia Patterson of Newton and Mary (Ron) Belcher of Des Moines. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Harlyne; son, Lynn Richard Patterson, Jr.; his great-great grandson, Jax Carroll; four brothers; and five sisters.
