Two Newton residents, 46-year-old Charles L. Brumley and 31-year-old Misty M. Patterson-Peterson, were charged with third-degree theft after allegedly stealing tractor parts early this morning from Colfax Tractor Parts.

Jasper County deputies and Colfax police responded to a 911 call at 1:38 a.m. today from Andy Bucklin, 45, of Colfax, who reported the theft. Police located a vehicle in a ditch on Field Avenue and found Brumley and Patterson-Peterson, who had been apprehended by Bucklin. During the investigation, police discovered methamphetamine, and Brumley and Patterson-Peterson were with possession of methamphetamine as well as possession of drug paraphernalia. Patterson-Peterson also was cited with failure to wear a seatbelt. They were taken to the Jasper County Jail.

Police also determined Bucklin had fired one round in the hood of the car and at the driver’s area of the vehicle. He was charged with reckless use of a firearm causing property damage. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail, where he later posted bail. No injuries were reported.
