Newton Police Department
• Ryan E. Dearinger, 41, of Newton was charged with fifth-degree theft at 7:42 p.m. Sunday after officers where dispatched to Pit Stop Liquors. Police reported Dearinger stole a bottle of Gentleman Jack valued at $34.99, and Melissa K. Stephen, 35, of Newton distracted the clerk while he took the liquor bottle. She was charged with aiding and abetting. Police located them walking in the 1300 block of First Avenue East. Dearinger was taken to the Jasper County Jail, and Stephen was released to appear in court.
• Eric E. Ewurs, 51, of Newton was cited for failure to obey a stop sign following a two-vehicle accident at 4:42 p.m. Monday at the intersection of First Avenue West and Highway 14. According to police, Ewurs was traveling eastbound on First Avenue when he allegedly failed to stop and collided with a vehicle traveling northbound driven by Marelene Yacoub, 38, of Des Moines. Damage to Yacoub’s vehicle was estimated at $3,000, and Ewurs’ vehicle damage was estimated at $4,000 damage. Upon investigation, police discovered both drivers were driving without insurance and were cited for it. No injuries were reported.
• Jorge A. Flores-Estrada, 25, of Newton was charged with driving while license barred after an officer observed him driving at 4:14 p.m. Friday in the 700 block of North Fourth Avenue East. Police recognized him knew his license was barred. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
• Jordan L. Foreman, 25, of Newton was charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief after police investigated a broken car window in the 300 block of First Avenue West at 10:09 a.m. Monday. He allegedly broke a car window of a parked vehicle and fled the scene, police located him near the Newton Police Department where he was charged and released to appear. When police apprehended him, authorities also found Mindie S. Woodard, 34, of Newton. Police discovered she had an outstanding Jasper County arrest warrant for failure to appear on an driving while license revoked charge. She was taken to the Jasper County Jail. Damage to the window was estimated at $361.93.
• Tina Murphy, 23, of Monroe was charged with domestic assault after she allegedly slapped her husband at 12:04 a.m. Monday in the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department at Skiff Medical Center. She arrived at the Newton Police Department after being dismissed from the hospital later that day and was charged. She was released to appear in court.
Jasper County Sheriff’s Office
• Mohammed S. Al Madden, 28, of Eagan, Minn., was stopped at 4:40 a.m. Monday for speeding at the 164 mile marker on Interstate 80. He allegedly was traveling 98 mph in a 70 mph zone. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. It is the policy of the Newton Daily News to release the names of individuals charged with a crime who are 16 and older.
