Animal Welfare Task Force seeks volunteers to serve

To the editor:

In January, our City Council implemented a breed-neutral vicious dog ordinance. As this was a necessary action, the council felt this was a reactive ordinance and showed interest in exploring a proactive approach to our animal ordinances.

In February, I came before Mayor Hansen and our City Council, suggesting an animal task force be created to study the existing ordinances and animal welfare issues. In my presentation, I explained that through research and collaboration, the task force will provide the council with recommendations and the necessary information for it to maintain, make informed changes to, or add to the existing ordinances.

The objective of this group is to help the City Council make Newton a pet-friendly and people-safe community. This is a great opportunity to have your voice heard, whether it is regarding an animal welfare issue or an animal public safety concern.

Please consider serving on this task force by contacting Mayor Hansen at (641) 792-2787 or me at (641) 521-6960 or at lbdistributionllc@yahoo.com via email.
