After suffering two tough losses to Pella Christian last season, the Prairie City-Monroe boys soccer team earned a little payback on Thursday.
The Mustangs (1-0) got goals from Jamie Ray and Jamison Goodyk and goalkeeper Derrick Hoodjer made 14 saves to start off the season with a 2-0 victory in Pella.
“Excellent team effort,” PCM coach Darrin Telfer said. “Some kids made sacrifices for the team and played in positions they didn’t play last year. This was truly a team win.”
Ray tallied the first goal at the 37:12 mark of the first half, while Goodyk’s goal came at the 28:48 mark of the second.
The Mustangs will be back in action on Thursday when they host Chariton.
