Boat registrations expire April 30

The renewal period for boats began Jan. 1, and it is the first renewal cycle in which boats are registered and renewed through the Recreational Vehicle and Vessel Registration System.

The new system is web-based and requires additional information than the prior paper registration system. Registrations and renewals continue to be completed at the Jasper County Recorder’s Office.

To make this transition as easy as possible, bring the following information with you when you come in to renew or renew by mail:

The most current registration for your boat and the boat’s IA number. Make, model, model year, and color of your boat. Hull Identification Number (HIN). Length and width of the boat. Horsepower and capacity as indicated on the capacity plate of the boat. Propulsion method and boat type. Type of use for the boat. Phone Number (if renewing my mail).

Most of the above information can be found on your boat registration. Bring it to the office with you. Note that current boat registrations expire April 30, and no renewal notices will be sent to boat owners. Fees can be obtained by contacting the Recorder’s office at (641) 792-5442.

When renewing by mail, send requests to:

Key changes to boat registration process

• Writing Fees: The Jasper County Recorder’s Office will be collecting writing fees per privilege instead of by transaction. This means that each registration, registration renewal and title or lien issued on a boat will be assessed a $1.25 writing fee.

• Administrative Fees: Transactions will be assessed a DNR administrative fee that is used to offset the expense of development and use of the RVVRS. Registrations will be assessed a $3.65 fee and all other transactions will be assessed a $1.50 fee.

• Boat Decals: New boat decals issued through RVVRS will be a smaller, 3.5- by 3.5-inch size. The decal is similar in design and will have the IA registration number printed on the decal.
