Rodney Lyons, 52, of Mitchellville died on Saturday, March 23, 2013, at a friend’s house in Newton.

There will be a celebration starting at 6 p.m. Friday, March 29, at the American Legion in Newton. Memorials in Rodney’s name may be left at the Legion or at the Wallace Family Funeral Home.

Rodney, the son of Beverly Parish Lyons, was born on Oct. 18, 1960, in Newton, Iowa. He graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1979. Rodney served his country in the U.S. Navy. He worked as a mechanic and tow truck driver. Rodney was a member of the Make It or Break It 4X4 Club and enjoyed all kinds of racing, four-wheeling, going to the Iowa State Fair and being with friends.

Those left to honor Rodney’s memory are his daughter, Erica Lyons of Hobe Sound, Florida; brother, Shawn Lyons of Ames; sister, Renee Lyons of Lucas; and two nieces, Sara McQuinn and Jessica Lyons. He was preceded in death by his mother, Beverly Lyons and his son, Kyle Lyons.
