Board not likely to discuss superintendent search Monday

On Monday the school board will meet for their bi-monthly meeting at Emerson Hough at 6 p.m. Surprisingly the agenda has nothing about the current search to find a replacement for superintendent Steve McDermott who will resign at the end of the school year.

Perhaps the most important thing that will be discussed is the notice of the public hearing for the 2012 to 2013 budget amendment. The board has been asked to set the date for the public hearing to April 8.

The board has also been asked to set April 8 as the date for a public hearing on the 2013 to 2014 budget plan proposal. The board will preview the proposed budget and put it up for discussion at the Monday meeting.

Another item that will come up to vote is a cooperative swimming boy’s swimming sponsorship with Pella Community School District. The district has a similar cooperative agreement with Colfax-Mingo for tennis and swimming and diving. Newton sent four swimmers to state last season.

In the superintendents report McDermott will discuss the Berg PTA playground grant and 2013 to 2014 master contracts. He will also discuss the open enrollment in’s that the district received.
