Newton Police Department
• A 12-year-old Newton boy was charged with criminal mischief after officers were called to Aurora Heights Elementary School at 9:15 a.m. Thursday after the student allegedly threw a chair and broke $200 worth of items. The case was referred to juvenile courts.

• James D. Brake, 43, of Newton was cited for driving with a suspended license after officers stopped him for speeding in the 1600 block of South 13th Avenue East at 7:32 p.m. Monday. During the traffic stop, officers discovered he was driving with a suspended license, and he was cited for it. He was given a warning for speeding and was released to appear.

• Tyler D. Lakin, 21, of Newton was charged with domestic assault after officers were dispatched to 523 S. Second Ave. W. at 1:43 p.m. Sunday. Lakin allegedly struck his mother in the back of the head causing injury. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
