Newton Police Department

• Dustin R. Bestell, 20, of Baxter was cited for failure to maintain control after authorities stopped him at 3:20 p.m. Monday in the 1700 block of North Fourth Avenue East. Bestell allegedly pulled in front of an eastbound vehicle driven by Anita M. Trotter, 58, of Newton. Damage to Trotter’s vehicle was estimated at $1,200, and Bestell’s vehicle damage was estimated at $200. No injuries were reported.

• Robbie L. Doran, 30, of Newton was charged with operating while intoxicated and driving while license suspended and cited with unlawful use of license after officers stopped his vehicle in the 100 block of East Seventh Street North at 2:06 a.m. Saturday. He had blood shot eyes and smelled of alcohol. He refused a sobriety test, and while running a check on him, officers discovered his license was suspended. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. It is the policy of the Newton Daily News to release the names of individuals charged with a crime who are 16 and older.
