Nolte, Cornman & Johnson P.C. recently released an audit report on the Newton Community School District.

The district’s revenues totaled $35,586,677 for the year ended June 30, 2012, a 1.35 percent increase from the prior year. Revenues included in local tax of $11,301,021; statewide sales, services and use tax of $2,345,281; charges for service of $1,515,677; operating grants, contributions and restricted interest of $3,038,798; capital grants, contributions and restricted interest of $36,932; unrestricted state grants of $16,711,470; nonspecific program federal grants of $469,853; unrestricted interest of $5,983; and other general revenues of $161,662.

Expenses for district operations totaled $32,140,009 a 1.95 percent increase from the prior year. Expenses included $12,611,283 for regular instruction, $4,744,123 for special instruction and $2,919,773 for administrative services.
