Poppens, Christofferson earn Big 12 honors for ISU

AMES (AP) — Iowa State’s Chelsea Poppens and Hallie Christofferson have earned first-team All-Big 12 selections from the league’s coaches, giving the Cyclones two in the same season for the first time.

Poppens, a forward from Aplington, Iowa, earned first-team honors for the second season in a row with 13.1 points and 9.4 rebounds a game.

Christofferson, who grew up in Hamlin, Iowa, was a unanimous first-team pick after averaging 16 points and 6.8 rebounds a contest.

Baylor’s Brittney Griner won the league’s Player of the Year and Kim Mulkey of the Bears won Coach of the Year honors.

Iowa State is the No. 2 seed for the upcoming Big 12 tournament and will play either TCU or Kansas on Saturday in Dallas.
