Newton Police Department

• Leonidas M. Psomas Jr., 43, of Newton was cited for driving while license suspended after officers ran a plate check on him in the 300 block of East 12th Street North at 6:11 p.m. Thursday. He was released to appear.

Jasper County Sheriff’s Office

• Christopher L. Duckworth, 24, of Newton was charged with driving while license barred after officers responded to a stranded motorist in the 5500 block of county blacktop F48 West at 8:14 p.m. Thursday. After assisting him with his vehicle, officers determined his license was barred and had been suspended eight times. Duckworth was stopped. During an investigation, a passenger in the vehicle, Danny G. Petro, 31, of Newton, allegedly was found in possession of marijuana. While officers were searching him, they also found brass knuckles and rolling papers. Petro threw the paper wrappers, but police were able to locate some and identify them as containing marijuana. Petro was charged with possession of marijuana. Both where taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Geoffrey S. Hansen, 49, of Mingo was arrested for driving while license revoked after officers initiated a traffic stop on Main Street in Mingo at 4:32 a.m. Friday. During the traffic stop, police discovered Hansen was driving with a license barred and took him to the Jasper County Jail.

A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. It is the policy of the Newton Daily News to release the names of individuals charged with a crime who are 16 and older.
