The Newton Development Corporation, Des Moines Area Community College Newton Campus, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach of Jasper County and JEDCO are collaborating to host a Job/Career Fair from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 28 at DMACC Newton Campus Room 210.
To date, more than 30 employers have registered to participate.
Local residents also are invited to prepare for the fair by attending a free “Pre-Job/Career Workshop on Friday, March 15, from 9 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. at the DMACC Newton Campus Room 238.
“We’ve been able to arrange to have a pair of professionals lead this workshop,” NDC Executive Director Frank Liebl said.
Cassandra Halls, president of 2 The Top – Career Advancement Strategies, will do a presentation on “Maximizing Your Job Fair Results: Ever attended a job fair and then wondered what you were doing there?” Attendees will learn how to attend a job fair and stand out from the crowd, creative ideas to help you develop true connections with employers and how to put together a strategy for attending a job fair.
Debbie Mascaro, from Iowa Workforce Development, will do two workshops, one on preparing a resume and the second on sharpening interviewing skills. The schedule is as follows:
• 9 to 10:30 a.m. — Resume Writing (Debbie Mascaro)
• 10 to 10:45 a.m. — Break
• 10:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. — Maximizing Your Job Fair Results (Cassandra Halls)
• 12:15 to 12:45 p.m. — Lunch (provided by sponsors)
• 12:45 to 2:15 p.m. — Sharpening Your Interview Skills (Debbie Mascaro)
