PELLA (CC) — Collins-Maxwell-Baxter alumnus Danny Samson was honored for his contributions to the Central College football team this fall at the squad’s recent awards banquet.

Samson, a Baxter native, was selected to the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference first team for his work on Central’s defensive line. He recorded 42 tackles (17 solo), 11.5 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, one defended pass, one forced fumble and one blocked kick in the 2012 campaign. He has now received two varsity letters.

In Jeff McMartin’s ninth season as head coach, the Dutch compiled a 5-5 record, with a 4-3 conference record, finishing tied for second in the Iowa Conference.

Five players received all-league honors, including two-time first-team pick Kevin Sheldon who also received D3football.com All-West Region recognition. Senior linebacker Seth Carson was presented the team’s Heerema-Schilder Most Valuable Player award.

Central has not had a losing season since 1960 and will return 42 letterwinners for the 2013 season.
