Newton Police Department
• Pamela R. Claseman, 58, of Newton was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana after officers were called to 1800 W. Fourth St. N #13B to investigate a odor of marijuana at 2:48 p.m. Sunday. While investigating, officers allegedly discovered a baggie of marijuana and a plastic soda bottle that had been converted into a smoking pipe inside the apartment unit. She was released to appear.
• Dale W. Hansen, 51, of DeWitt was cited for failure to have maintain control of his vehicle after officers were called to the 164 eastbound on-ramp of Interstate 80 at 6:10 p.m. Monday. Hansen allegedly swerved to miss other vehicles, lost control, and struck a light pole, causing about $2,000 worth of damages to the pole. His vehicle damage was estimated at $3,000. No injuries were reported.
• Andrew J. Lammey, 16, of Newton was cited for failure to yield upon a left turn after police were called to investigate an accident in the 1800 block of First Avenue East at 4:36 p.m. Monday. Lammey was traveling eastbound on First Avenue where he allegedly turned into the path of a westbound vehicle driven by Tammy L. DeHaai, 40, of Newton in the Classic Car parking lot. Damage to Lammey’s vehicle was estimated at $2,000 and DeHaai’s vehicle damage was estimated at $1,000. No injuries were reported.
Jasper County Sheriff Office
• Jordan M. Degoey, 23, of Newton was arrested on a warrant for failure to appear in a pre-trail conference after police were dispatched to his residence at 523 N. 51st Ave. E. at 11:52 p.m. Saturday. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
• Christopher L. Jones, 43, of Des Moines was arrested for possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia after officers pulled him over in the 2500 block of First Avenue East at 1:11 a.m. Saturday. Officers pulled Jones over for a traffic violation and noticed two syringes in plain sight. Jones allegedly told officers he used to do drugs. As officers searched him, they found a pipe with a burnt residue. Officers then proceeded to search his car where they found plastic bags of a white substance that was later identified to be methamphetamine. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. It is the policy of the Newton Daily News to release the names of individuals charged with a crime who are 16 and older.
