Newton Police Department
• James A. Bonnett, 28, of Newton was arrested and charged with fifth-degree theft after authorities received a shoplifting complaint at 9:17 a.m. Feb. 25. Bonnett was charged for allegedly entering Walmart on Feb. 24 and taking items from the store in a cart without paying. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
• Andrew J. Bulmer, 19, of Kellogg was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and driving while license suspended after authorities stopped him at 1:22 a.m. Saturday at West End Laundry on First Avenue West for having an inoperable license plate light. Police determined his license was suspended, and Bulmer allegedly had a ball-point pen used to smoke marijuana in his possession. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
• Paige J. Ford, 40, and Mary R. Feehan, 40, both of Newton, were charged with fifth-degree theft after authorities responded to a shoplifting complaint at 3:50 p.m. Wednesday at Walmart. They were charged for allegedly concealing $23.85 in merchandise in a purse and released to appear in court.
• Kaylee A. Golbek, 18, of Newton was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct after authorities responded to a complaint of an individual being loud, uncooperative and causing a disturbance in the Skiff Medical Center Emergency Room at 1:10 a.m. Monday. She was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
• Harold P. Mahoney, 62, of Newton was charged with driving while license suspended after authorities stopped him at 10:19 p.m. Friday in the 2700 block of First Avenue East and determined his license was suspended. He was released to appear in court.
• Nathan L. Miller, 24, of Kellogg was charged with driving while license suspended after authorities stopped him at 5:34 a.m. Sunday in the 300 block of North Second Avenue East and determined his license had been suspended. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
• Jason A. Schutty, 42, of Newton was charged with public intoxication, third offense, after authorities responded to a complaint of an unwanted guest at 10:59 p.m. Sunday at a residence in the 200 block of East Fourth Street South. Scutty was located standing on the sidewalk in the 400 block of South Third Avenue East. He was swaying and smelled of alcohol but refused sobriety tests and chemical testing. He was charged and taken to the Jasper County Jail.
• Cody D. Thomas, 43, of Newton was charged with fifth-degree theft and public intoxication, third or subsequent offense, after authorities responded to a shoplifting complaint at 6:13 p.m. Sunday at Kum & Go on First Avenue East. Thomas was charged with theft for allegedly attempting to take a bottle of alcohol valued at $10.74. Thomas also smelled of alcohol but refused chemical testing. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
• Pane Thongvanh, 62, of Newton was charged with fifth-degree theft after authorities responded to a shoplifting complaint at 1:04 p.m. Thursday at Walmart. He was charged for concealing $45.46 in merchandise in his coat and released to appear in court.
• A 15-year-old Newton male was charged with possession of prescription medication without a prescription, a serious misdemeanor, after authorities were called to Newton Senior High School at 11:30 a.m. Friday in reference to a student with 23 pills. The pills were identified as tramadol. The boy was charged and referred to juvenile court services.
Jasper County Sheriff’s Office
• Michael D. Cassady, 34, of Kellogg was charged with unlawful possession of a prescription drug, driving while license suspended and operation without insurance after authorities stopped him at 5:20 p.m. Saturday in the 800 block of Highway 224 North for traffic violation. Cassady allegedly had one cyclobenzeprine hydrochloride pill in an unlabeled container without a prescription and was driving with a suspended license. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
• Jessica L. Koder, 25, Hamilton was charged with possession of marijuana and driving while license suspended after authorities stopped her at 6:34 p.m. Friday at the 29 mile marker on Highway 163 for a traffic violation. Authorities determined her license had been suspended and found a baggie containing a green leafy substance in the vehicle. A passenger in the vehicle — Jacob A. Pemberton, 22, of Hamilton — also was charged with possession of marijuana. Both were taken to the Jasper County Jail.
A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. It is the policy of the Newton Daily News to release the names of individuals charged with a crime who are 16 and older.
