William “Bill” D. Roberts

William “Bill” D. Roberts, 82, of Newton died on Monday, Feb. 11, 2013, at Skiff Medical Center under the care of Skiff Hospice.

A funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home. The family will greet friends from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, at the funeral home. Memorials to the BPOE Elks Lodge #1270 may be left at the funeral home.

Bill the son of Earl and Clethus (Jordan) Roberts, was born on March 31, 1930, in Coon Rapids, Iowa. He graduated from Manning High School in 1948 and received his B.A. from Drake University in 1952. Bill served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was united in marriage with Madonna Mae Steen on Aug. 26, 1950, in Manning. After living many places during the first 18 years of marriage, Madonna and Bill made their home in Newton in 1968. Bill worked in sales his entire life, retiring from Winpower in 1981.
