As much of Newton’s population ages, many senior care facilities around town have recognized the growing need for not only their residential facilities, but their care services as well. For Newton Village, this has presented the perfect opportunity for growth.
Aware of the growing need, Newton Village will be expanding their facility this spring. The total project, which is expected to cost approximately $3 million, will consist of entirely new buildings.
In July, the Newton City Council approved the sale of 0.79 acres of land adjacent to Newton Village for the expansion.
“We are excited that the City Council is working with us to take care of our elders,” Newton Village Marketing Director Margie Criswell said.
They hope to raise $300,000 in donations. Donations more than $500 will be permanently recognized on their Caring Tree. The tree is a plaque made up of green and gold donation leaves. The green leaves are $500, and the gold are $1,000.
The following naming opportunities are available for the amount listed:
• Chapel, $75,000: The chapel will feature new state-of-the-art sound system to help residents hear the word of God from local Newton Ministers. The village’s goal is to provide all the resources needed to nurture residents’ needs to continue their religious beliefs.
• Dining Room, $25,000: This is a brand new dining room and will seat around 30 residents.
• Therapy Room, $20,000: Newton Village is working with Skiff Medical Center to better accommodate the needs of their residents. Their therapy room will be certified for physical therapy.
• Barber/Beauty Shop, $10,000: The barbershop/beauty shop will allow residence the comfort of a close exclusive location. Rather than waiting in line, seniors will be allowed to schedule an appointment at their own time.
• Spa, $10,000: Flexibility can become an issue with age, and with the addition of the spa, residence can experiences relief from their aliments; such as arthritis. Therapeutic messages, which is offered at the spa, can resolve some medical issues. It is also beneficial to seniors with diabetes by improving circulation and relieve pain.
• Resident Rooms, $2,500: A total of 22 rooms will be built. Twenty of the rooms will be private, and two of the rooms will feature two beds, designed for couples. Each room will have their own bathroom, and some rooms will feature a computer desk. The building will be Wi-fi ready.
The main goal for Newton Village has always been comfort. The expansion is meant to:
• Allow residents to recuperate in familiar surroundings.
• Provide a comfortable environment for friends and family to visit their loved ones.
• To ease the stress involved in healthcare by providing an on-site care facility.
• To provide residents with the best, loving care possible.
Jasper County Economic Development Corporation’s Executive Director Chaz Allen has been working hard to develop Jasper County, and has dealt with senior housing.
“Both Newton Village and Newton Park Centre have really benefited Newton,” Allen said. “From what I have seen, a lot of smaller community residents want to remain in their towns.”
Newton Village first opened its doors in 2003. They were owned by Elim Care, a recognized industry leader for more than 80 years. Throughout Newton Village’s history, they have always prided themselves on friendliness.
