Tuesday, Colette Hill of Sugar Grove Gatheringplace announced $440 had been raised to provide tickets for Newton Senior High School students to see the historical film, “Lincoln.”

“[I am] so excited that $440 was donated by community members so that 44 tickets to ‘Lincoln’ could be given to high school students,” she said in a message sent to the Daily News. “The drawing was held [Monday] by the Student Council, and the winners will be attending the movie at the Capitol II this week.”

The film, starring Daniel Day-Lewis, Sally Field and David Strathairn, is set during the waning days of the U.S. Civil War. The title character and American president is struggling with continuing the carnage on the battlefield while he wages his own war in Washington over the decision to emancipate the slaves.
