Capstone expands

Over the course of 2012, Capstone Behavioral Heathcare at 306 N. Third Ave. E. has expanded both its clientele and the services it offers.

Capstone, which, according to its web site, offers “quality services in mental health, chemical dependency counseling, residential and community based care in Jasper and Marion counties,” has experienced a shift in administrative duties over the course of the past 12 months.

The Capstone Board of Directors has named Julie Smith the center director and Renae Northcutt as the assistant director.

In addition, Fred Franck is working as clinical director and is currently working part-time; lead therapist Pat Van Zante is currently assisting with administrative duties.

Don’t be surprised if you notice a few new faces around Capstone as well, as they’ve recently hired a part-time psychologist who will be able to offer therapy as well as psychological testing. She will be working on Saturday mornings so that it is easier to get children scheduled for any testing that they may need.

This change reflects the expansion of the clientele Capstone serves, which was formerly primarily comprised of adults. In the past year, however, the needs of the persons that it serves have expanded to include children as Capstone currently has Dr. Van Cleve, psychiatrist and Casie Rine, PA-C who serve both children and adults.

It has hired a therapist who enjoys working with children and is excited to be able to serve the younger generation, as well as adults.

Since being designated as the Community Mental Health Center by both Jasper and Marion counties, Capstone was able to apply for and receive the mental health block grant. This has given the organization the opportunity to send two of its therapists to Parent Child Interactive Therapy training, an evidence-based practice that works with the parent to change the child’s behavior.

Cpastone will also be offering Mental Health First Aid, which will be available to the community in March.
