Newton school board to vote on school calender

The Newton Community School Board of Education will meet to vote on the proposed 2013-2014 school calendar at 6 p.m. on Monday.

Superintendent Steve McDermott will be presenting the board with information about the proposed calendar.

The board will also be voting on the approval of bills. Director of Business Services Gayle Isaac will present the board with an updated Business Services Report, which includes bills.

The board will also discuss the 2012-2013 Operating Budget. Secretary Gayle Isaac will present the board with a presentation regarding it.

McDermott will also inform the board about the open enrollment numbers. Each year, the state counts how many students attend the school district. Based off those numbers, the district receives funding. Open enrollment allows the district to receive extra funding that would otherwise be given to a different school district.

He will also address the board in regards to the: Excellence In Education/Chamber Dinner Awards, press box, information technology building progress, Human Resources Report and the Superintendent Goal Progress Report.

The board will also hear from President Andy Elbert about the Student Representative Report, open forum and the consent agenda.

Director of Elementary Educational Services Jim Gilbert will inform the board about an update regarding Professional Development Day on Feb. 15.
