Lenten fish fry dinners to begin Feb. 15

The Msgr. TJ McCann Council (#2663) of the Knight of Columbus again will host its annual fish fry dinners during Lent at McCann Center, located adjacent to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1115 S. Eighth Ave. E. in Newton.

The first of these popular meals will be on Friday, Feb. 15, with serving beginning at 5 p.m., and the dinners will be offered each Friday through March 22. The public is invited to enjoy the friendly environment, featuring both baked and fried fish that hold a longstanding reputation among loyal patrons as “the best they have ever tasted.”

The cost is $7 for senior meals, $7.50 for adult meals and $3 for meals for children age 7 and younger. The meal menu includes a baked potato with toppings, vegetable and roll. Homemade desserts also are available from the Sacred Heart Parish youth group for a goodwill offering.

In addition, the local Knights of Columbus have seats available for the June 13 trip to “The Friendly Confines” of Wrigley Field to see the Chicago Cubs battle the defending National League Central Champs Cincinnati Reds. In addition to transportation on a luxury coach and admission to the game, this third-annual trip includes games and activities on the bus, and a day of fun for the entire family. The cost for the trip is $85 per person. The bus will depart early from Newton and return on the same day.

The Knights of Columbus also are raffling a pair of bus seats/tickets for the June 13 Cubs trip.  Raffle tickets are $1 each and are available at McCann Center or from Marty Stratton via the Knights of Columbus website at www.newtoniowakofc.org. The winning entry will be drawn on April 1.
