Fundraiser collecting money to send students to the movies

With your help, Newton Senior High School students who wish to see the historical film “Lincoln” will be able to do so next week.

Colette Hill of Sugar Grove Gathering Place in Newton recently announced a fundraising effort that kicked off Thursday evening, and will continue through the weekend. Each eveing, beginning at 5 p.m., the Capitol II Theater will have a donation box set up to collect funds to pay for NHS students to see “Lincoln” any weeknight next week.

Each student will receive a coupon for a ticket, popcorn and soda. It will cost $10 to fund each coupon. Names of students who are interested in seeing the movie will be taken Friday by the NHS Student Council.

Student Council representatives will hold a drawing of names from a stovepipe hat during lunch Monday. Hill said the goal is to ensure any student who wishes to see the movie will be able to do so, taking personal financial difficulties out of the equation.

Donations to this project are not tax-deductible.
