Police Blotter

• Charles C. Balius, 34, of West Des Moines was arrested at 5 p.m. Jan. 31 on three warrants for violation of a protective order after turning himself in. He was charged with two additional counts of violating protective orders for allegedly sending text messages to and calling a Newton woman. He was taken to jail.

• Adam R. Brown, 21, of Newton and Christopher J. Pierce, 16, of Colfax each were charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia after authorities responded to a complaint at 2:46 p.m. Friday of an odor of marijuana coming from an apartment at 303 S. Third Ave. E. #3. Officers arrived and observed Pierce smoking marijuana. They also saw a marijuana pipe on a kitchen counter within the reach of a 6-year-old girl. Pierce also was charged with child endangerment, and both men were taken to jail.

• William M. Harvour, 58, of Newton was arrested at 9:48 a.m. Tuesday and charged with public intoxication after authorities responded to a complaint of a possibly intoxicated male who had fallen on the sidewalk in the 100 block of South Second Avenue West. Harvour failed sobriety maneuvers, was charged and taken to jail.

• Brandon L. Moyer, 20, of Grinnell was arrested Monday by Poweshiek County authorities on a Jasper County warrant for failure to appear in court for an initial hearing on a charge of driving while license suspended. Local authorities picked him up at 4 p.m. and brought him to the Jasper County Jail.

• Vincent L. Spoonemore, 59, of Newton was arrested and charged with driving while license suspended and cited with violation of conditions on a restricted license after authorities stopped him at 3:35 a.m. Tuesday in the 200 block of East Seventh Street North for an equipment violation and determined he did not have a valid driver’s license. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Jennifer J. Tucker, 41, of Newton was charged with fifth-degree theft after authorities responded to a shoplifting complaint at 12:12 p.m. Tuesday at Walmart. She was charged for allegedly concealing $14.94 in merchandise in her purse and was released to appear in court.
