The Lynnville-Sully wrestling team fell just shy of advancing to the state dual tournament on Tuesday night, falling to Class 1A No. 5 West Marshall by a final score of 51-30 at Don Bosco-Gilbertville.

After Cole Nickell received a forfeit at 106 pounds, the Hawks got their first contested victory from Malin Meyer (120), who stuck Class 1A No. 5 Cole Needham. Jamison Goodyk followed that up with another pin at 126. The Hawks wouldn’t win another match until Meliek Meyer stuck his opponent at 152. Caden Doll then ended the night with a pin at 160. All of West Marshall’s victories were pins except for a close 3-0 decision on Levi Bennington at 145.

Although the Hawks didn’t advance as a team, some of them will still be in action at districts in Pleasantville on Saturday. Malin Meyer, Bennington, Meliek Meyer, Doll and Shane Thompson (285) will represent Lynnville-Sully as individuals in the meet.
