Vanderlaan inducted into AIB honor society

DES MOINES – Kayla Vanderlaan of Newton was inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society at AIB College of Business on Jan. 22.

“These students have been designated as among the best and brightest,” said AIB President Nancy Williams. “We know that they’re going to go on to excellent careers in business.”

Jane DeHaven, Phi Theta Kappa advisor and director of Career Services at AIB, believes the new pledges meet the organization’s high standards of intellectual pursuit, ambition and ethics.

“In Phi Theta Kappa, they will find the friendship and support that will help them move forward with their academic goals and peers who will push them to strive for even loftier goals following college,” DeHaven said.

Vanderlaan now is eligible for special scholarships at AIB. Those scholarship opportunities also are available to Phi Theta Kappa members who transfer from other colleges into AIB’s bachelor’s degree completion program.

Phi Theta Kappa was established in 1918 in Missouri and is the largest honor society in American higher education. Phi Theta Kappans must have a GPA of 3.5 or above, show good moral character and possess recognized qualities of good citizenship.

The mission of the Beta Pi Pi Chapter at AIB is to recognize and encourage academic achievement and to provide opportunities for individual growth and development through participation in honors, leadership, service and fellowship programming.

Vanderlaan is earning an Associate in Applied Science degree in Sports and Event Management at AIB.
