The biggest issue on tonight’s Newton school board meeting will most likely be the discussion of the part-time employee retirement policy. While no final decision is required until April 1, the topic seems to be one that will dominate the meeting.

Another topic of interest at the meeting will be iPads. The district, thanks to a donation from the Iowa Speedway will assist in providing iPads to students in ninth through 12th grades. Before the donation, the plan was for only 10th to 12th grade students receiving iPads. Also being discussed is the implementation of iPads for board members.

Other issues that will be discussed are when the new Berg drive dropping off procedure will go into effect. Possible dates to make up for snow days and the districts 2013-2014 school calendar. There also will be an update on the planned Lunch with Legislators, and a review of the comprehensive emergency plan. The district will also have a response to the Teacher DINA Survey results. DINA, which stands for District In Need of Assistance, is a measure on which a district is graded in terms of compliance with the No Child Left Behind Act.
