Area Roundup: Hawk basketball sweeps North Mahaska

The girls of Lynnville-Sully blew past the Montezuma Braves Friday Night, winning 63-30. The Hawks got strong performances out of juniors Rachel Van Wyk and Cassie Cullen. Van Wyk picked up 16 points and 10 rebounds while Cullen led all scorers with 18 points on seven of 14 shooting.

“We played a very good first half defensively not letting Montezuma get into their offense. We attacked the rim and got some good looks inside. In the third quarter we didn’t come out ready to play.” Hawks coach Jerry Hulsing said.

The Lynnville-Sully boys beat the Montezuma Braves 57-44 on Friday night on the back of a strong first half performance. The Hawks led 38-20 after the first two quarters and were able to hold on despite being outscored 24-19 in the second half.

Leading the way for the Hawks were TJ Cunningham with 14 points, Darin Hofer with 12 and Connor Cullen with 10.
