For Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, Retired and Senior Volunteers collected much-needed personal care items for the local Salvation Army. Fareway, Hy-Vee and Walgreens hosted RSVP volunteers while they collected items, and those who volunteered included Sandra Loomis, Janie Moles, Violet Bakalar, Fran Henderson, Ann Bovenkamp, Mildred Rawlins, Arlene VanVoorhis, Verneil Knoot, Jim Daniels, Larry Pauley and Jerry and Nan Schmidt.

RSVP also serves the community with its Help Engage a Reader Today program, by transporting eligible clients to medical appointments in or out of the county with its Jasper County RIDE program, and by offering free tax preparation services for low- and middle-income families and elderly clients. Volunteers also help the city check that warning sirens, visit shut-ins and help the Greater Newton Area Chamber of Commerce, Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge, Skiff Medical Center, Jasper County Elderly Nutrition and other programs in Jasper County.

Volunteers are always needed. For more information, visit Tanya or Denice at RSVP in the Iowa State University Extension office located at DMACC or call (641) 792-6433.
