Colfax-Mingo senior Sydnie Fahrney signed a letter of intent to play softball at Marshalltown Community College last Friday.
MCC coach Jeff Lamb made the trip to Colfax to sign Fahrney, who has been a Jill-of-all-trades for the Tigerhawks since she was an eighth-grader.
Last season alone, Fahrney hit .396 with 17 RBIs and a team-high three home runs. She also led the Tigerhawks with 20 walks, 26 runs scored, a .578 slugging percentage and an on-base percentage of .529. Her 34 hits were also second on the team to then-senior Katelyn Buehrer.
But that’s not all.
In the circle, Fahrney was a fixture for Colfax-Mingo. She started 26 games, which factored out to 150 1⁄3 innings, which was third among pitchers in the Heart of Iowa Conference. Her 81 strikeouts and eight wins were both first on the team and fourth in the conference.
“I am very excited for Sydnie,” Tigerhawks coach Bryan Poulter said. “She has been a tremendous player for us and I know she will do well at the next level. I am looking forward to working with Sydnie her senior year, and I know she will bring fantastic leadership to our team before she moves onto the college level.”
