IGHSAU releases girls basketball pairings

The high school girls basketball postseason began to take form with the recent release of the Iowa Girl’s High School Athletic Union’s regional pairings.

Starting things off in Class 4A, Newton will face Des Moines Hoover in Des Moines on Feb. 13. As of Monday, the Huskies were sporting a record of 7-8 out of the Central Iowa Metropolitan League. The Cardinals are sporting a record of 4-9 overall going into tonight’s conference showdown at Pella Christian.

In Class 3A, Collins-Maxwell-Baxter will spend the first round at home when the Raiders host East Marshall at 7 p.m. on Feb. 9. East Marshall enters Tuesday with an overall record of 2-15. Also in 3A, Prairie City-Monroe will take a short road trip west to Bondurant-Farrar, also at 7 p.m. Feb. 9. The Bluejays have a current record of 9-4.

Moving to Class 2A, Colfax-Mingo will also host a home game. Madrid will make the trip to Colfax on Feb. 9 at 7 p.m., making it three basketball playoff games in the county that night. The Tigerhawks hold a slight edge over the Tigers in wins this year, with a 2-14 record to Madrid’s 1-15.

Wrapping things up for the county teams, Lynnville-Sully will host the first postseason game on Feb. 7 at 7 p.m. against Ankeny Christian Academy. The Hawks could face one of the toughest challenges of the county teams, as Ankeny Christian Academy entered Tuesday with an overall record of 14-1.
