Berg students selected for honor band

Six Berg Middle School instrumental musicians were selected to perform in the 2013 Orpheus Middle School Honor Band.

The festival is comprised of two middle school honor bands representing the entire state of Iowa. Each band will perform a 15-minute portion of the evening concert and include the Simpson College Symphonic Band. Students were selected according to advanced progress in technique books and outstanding musicianship. They include David Lopez-Sanders, baritone, son of Emigdio and Lori Lopez-Sanders; Reagan Maple, trombone, son of Jeff and Eileen Maple; Emily Mehmen, alto saxophone, daughter of Jennifer and Dennis Mehmen; Emily Miller, percussion, daughter of Eric and Kim Miller; Katherine Thorpe, tenor saxophone, daughter of Jim and Joan Thorpe; and Amie Williams, flute, daughter of Jim and Michelle Williams.

The Honor Band Festival will be on Tuesday at Simpson College. Students will audition for chair placements at 8 a.m. and begin rehearsing at 10 a.m. There will be a free public performance at 6:45 p.m. in Pote Theater at Simpson College featuring the Simpson College Symphonic Band, followed by the Gold and Red Middle School Honor Bands.
