Newton Police Department

• Andrew D. Altemeier, 32, of Newton was charged with public intoxication after police were called to Fareway at 12:06 p.m. Monday. Police found Altemeier in the in a nearby alleyway. He taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• A 13-year-old student was charged with disorderly conduct for an incident that occurred at Berg Middle School at 12:11 p.m. Jan. 9. Police were called to the middle school in reference to an out-of-control student. The boy was charged Monday with disorderly conduct. The case is being handled by juvenile authorities.

A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. It is the policy of the Newton Daily News to release the names of individuals charged with a crime who are 16 and older.
