Donald V. Sample

BLOOMFIELD — Donald V. Sample, 96, of Newton, former longtime resident of Bloomfield, Iowa, died Jan. 13, 2013, at the Newton Health Care Center in Newton.

He was born March 31, 1916, in Davis County, Iowa to John F. and Myrtle Shepherd Sample. He married Mildred Schindler on Sept. 29, 1940, in Pulaski, Iowa. He owned and operated Don’s Repair Shop in Bloomfield for 36 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bloomfield.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred Sample of Newton; three sons, Leroy (Polly) Sample of Estero, Florida, Eugene (Nancy) Sample of West Des Moines, Iowa, Vern (Cindy) Sample of Urbandale, Iowa; a daughter, Karen (Ed) Meade of Newton; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Grace Hartley, Freda Dooley, Opal Blew, Virgie Sample; and six brothers, Glenn, Hugh, Ralph, Walter, Russell, and Wayne Sample.

A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Pastor Dan Smith officiating.  Burial will be at the Pulaski Cemetery in Pulaski, Iowa. Visitation will begin after 9 a.m. Monday with the family present to greet friends from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
